Luciano is surprised by Aitana's arrival at the Lizárraga ranch, as she is not the nurse he had chosen to care for his mother, and he fears she will cause problems in the family. Larisa can hardly wait to announce her engagement to Luciano in front of the whole family, although Belinda is not very happy to have her as a stepmother. Aitana tries to run away when she sees Zacarías arrive, as he is the only one capable of recognizing her and ruining her plans. Thanks to Lobo's keen sense of smell, Zacarías is even more certain that Aitana is, in fact, Adriana and confronts her for lying to him.

Faced with Zacarías's insistence, Aitana is forced to confess that she is in fact Adriana and reveals the reasons why she hates the Lizárraga brothers so much. Luciano feels compelled to demand that his brothers stay away from Aitana, stating that they cannot afford to risk their mother's recovery. Noticing Zacarías's change of attitude, Aitana demands that he pretend not to know anything about her story, as this would jeopardize her plans to seek justice. Aitana's pain moves Zacarías to such an extent that he begs her to abandon her suffering so she can live a full life, but she assures him that she has nothing more to offer him.

Belinda is surprised to realize that Aitana understands her in a way that no one in her family ever has. Bruno reveals to Aitana his mother's happiness over her marriage to Luciano, implying that the marriage was arranged by his parents. Iñigo seduces Nuria to make her forget her suspicions that he has a mistress. Bruno reveals to his brothers that he is drowning his sorrows in alcohol to silence the guilt over the crime his brothers committed years ago.

Aitana tries to help Belinda cope with her grief, and Luciano feels relieved to see that his daughter finally has someone she can trust. Luciano almost moves Aitana to tears by demonstrating his love for Belinda, but she refuses to see any goodness in him, remembering that night that changed her life. Mateo discovers that the girl they attacked so many years ago was Zacarías's girlfriend and fears that he is seeking justice against the Lizárraga family. Aitana confesses to Zacarías the reason why she hates Luciano more than her brothers: he was responsible for the attack she suffered.

Luciano becomes furious when he sees that Larisa and Eloísa have already decided on the wedding date without considering his opinion, much less Belinda's feelings. Zacarías begs Aitana to leave her pain behind and focus on being happy, because since she returned to his life, he hasn't been able to stop thinking about their love. Belinda opens her heart to Aitana and confesses her plans and her secret love, hoping that she won't tell Luciano, much less Eloísa. Aitana's investigation bears fruit when she finds evidence that Iñigo is the mysterious man who met with Larisa at the hotel.

Zacarías confronts Mateo for questioning everyone but him about his relationship with Adriana 20 years ago. Aitana confesses to her friend that, despite all the hatred she feels for Luciano, she can't shake the feelings she's developing for him. Iñigo becomes furious when he discovers that Nuria is taking birth control pills, as he needs to have a child who can inherit the Lizárraga family fortune. Seeing so many obstacles that Luciano creates for the wedding, Larisa begins to suspect that he doesn't really want to marry her.

Larisa tries to convince Luciano to send Belinda to London by criticizing their relationship, but only manages to irritate him to the point of canceling the wedding. Zacarías follows Aitana's advice and offers to pay for a botany course for Ximena, but to do so he would have to leave his job with the Lizárraga family. Aitana pretends to be Iñigo's lover to meet Nuria and make her realize that her husband is still cheating on her. Belinda lists for Luciano the qualities she would like to see in her future stepmother, without realizing that she is describing Aitana.

Luciano makes it clear to Larisa that Belinda will always be his priority, and she is forced to accept this in order to continue her marriage. Disappointed by Iñigo's infidelity, Nuria takes control of her life and moves back into her parents' house. Iñigo demands that Larisa investigate how Nuria found out about their meeting at the hotel, or he will reveal the secrets she is hiding. Because he is thinking about Aitana, Zacarías makes a mistake, and Ximena demands that he forget this love if he wants them to be together.

Furious at seeing Bruno flirting with Aitana, Luciano reminds him of the importance of not interfering in his mother's care. Is that his only concern? Aitana finds Luciano struggling to breathe and sets aside her resentment to save his life. Seeing that Nuria refuses to forgive Iñigo willingly, Eloísa resorts to legal threats to try and convince her. Eloísa demands that Iñigo get his life in order, but the argument escalates to the point where he suffers another stroke.

Larisa is horrified to realize that the only person who could have discovered her affair with Iñigo is Aitana. Hearing Larisa's suspicions, Iñigo sarcastically mocks her, unaware that he has discovered everything Aitana did against him. Larisa hires a private investigator to uncover all the secrets Aitana hides behind that innocent smile. Luciano questions Bruno about the supposed guilt that has consumed him for 18 years.

Aitana calls her mother to assure her she's alright, but she's absolutely unwilling to reject her only chance to make the Lizárraga brothers pay for their crimes. Micaela catches Larisa rummaging through Aitana's things and asks for her help to discover the nurse's true intentions. Eloísa demands that Aitana and the doctor keep her most recent diagnosis a secret, as she refuses to let her children find out the truth. Nuria agrees to return home for the sake of her daughters, but makes it clear to Iñigo that they will continue with the divorce until she rebuilds her life with a man who truly deserves her love.

Seeing that Nuria has no intention of changing her mind, Eloísa demands that Iñigo win her back, as she doesn't want to risk losing her granddaughters. Luciano follows Larisa's advice and seeks out Belinda to reveal the secret he has kept from her all his life. Zacarías opens his heart to Ximena and confesses that, for some time now, all that remains of the love he felt for her is affection. Trying to escape her new reality, Belinda arrives at the fair, where she meets a friendly stranger with suspicious intentions.

Ximena seeks out Aitana to share news about Belinda, who was about to suffer a terrible fate. Ximena questions Aitana about her relationship with Zacarías, and Aitana warns her that he could never love anyone other than Adriana. While discussing the tragedies Belinda escaped, Aitana notices that Bruno is more affected than the others and tries to uncover the truth that torments him. Belinda mocks the family breakfast she wasn't invited to and confronts her grandmother, who now knows she is adopted.

Luciano tries to calm Belinda, explaining that despite being adopted, he will always love her as a daughter, but she refuses to listen until she knows who her biological parents are. Aitana takes flowers to her old house to honor her father, hoping to find the strength to carry out her plan for justice. Iñigo warns Nuria that he will not rest until he wins her back, but she returns her wedding ring to show that she is not willing to return to her old life. After a night of drinking, Luciano confesses his admiration for Aitana, and she reciprocates with an unexpected kiss.

Aitana pretends that Luciano kissed her without permission, determined to provoke a confrontation between the Lizárraga brothers for his heart. Zacarías informs Clementina that he has ordered an autopsy on Lobo, as he is certain that Mateo murdered him. Micaela overhears a conversation between Mateo and Ximena and is forced to politely ask him to stay away from her niece. Aitana enters Mateo's office hoping to find evidence linking him to Lobo's death, but discovers something far more disturbing.

Bruno intercepts Belinda to advise her about family love, hoping it will help her forgive Luciano. Zacarías decides to take action against Mateo to ensure Lobo's death doesn't go unpunished, but Aitana intervenes with a better plan to bring him to justice. Larisa is disappointed with her future family when she sees that Eloísa and Luciano will do anything to avoid firing Aitana. Now that things are calmer, Luciano visits Belinda, hoping she has reconsidered her position on keeping her adoption a secret.

Luciano returns Irene's letter to Belinda, in which she confesses the deep love she felt for her, despite being adopted. Iñigo falls asleep at Larisa's house, unaware that Luciano is about to discover them. Aitana tries to reassure her mother, saying that she has nothing to fear, as her plan is meticulously calculated to achieve justice without putting herself at unnecessary risk. Nuria contacts Juan José, a former boyfriend with a law degree, to help her get rid of Iñigo once and for all.

Eloísa tries to manipulate Belinda into keeping the adoption a secret, thus protecting the family's good name. Larisa is afraid when she learns about her father's new business venture, because if he partners with Luciano, he will be putting her future at risk. The doctor pressures Eloísa to make an immediate decision about the treatment, because if she continues without it, she could die in less than three months. Aitana overhears Bruno confronting Eloísa about his addiction, claiming it's the only thing that helped him forget the victim of his terrible crime.
